Track by Track: Tender Age by The Joy of Painting

May 13th, 2013 § permalink

The Joy of Painting did an exclusive “track by track” (what each individual song means) of Tender Age with Infectious Magazine. I thought it was cool, so here’s a quick excerpt. For the rest of the songs, visit the Infectious Magazine website! AND DON’T FORGET TO PICK UP A COPY OF TENDER AGE!

“High Definitions: This song I loved from the second I wrote it. We had a lot of trouble finishing it as a band. When Josh came into the fold, he slapped some sense into us and told us we were over thinking things. We simplified and came close to something that seemed finished. When the day came to track all the rhythm tracks (Guitar, drum and bass), we decided to record HiDef as a ‘demo’ and we just said “we’ll work on it for the next release.” We tweaked the arrangement a bit said ’1, 2, 3, GO’ and bashed it out. What we heard the next day was way more exciting and fresh than we ever anticipated. Not only did we decide to put it on the record, we felt it was an excellent mission statement and opening track.

Dontchu Wanna: What a magical moment writing this song was. Late one night we decided to try something new. 2 hours later we were doing cartwheels around the universe. This song was a pretty nice emotional release for us. We’re all stuck in this weird time period, just after college where everything is confusing. This is the anthem for those people who’re in that same place.”

Welcome: RIGOLETTO

May 10th, 2013 § permalink

Welcome the newest addition to South Division Records, RIGOLETTO.

Rigoletto is a four piece rock band based out of Chattanooga, TN. They have been writing, performing and recording music together since September 2011. Their influences include: Bloc Party, Balance and Composure, Brand New and MJ. A passionate live show, intricate writing style, and the desire to create a unique musical experience for the listener are just a few examples of what separates Rigoletto from other artists in the field.

Their full-length debut, Delusions of Grandeur, was self-released in April 2013. South Division will be re-releasing a deluxe edition that will feature 2 brand new songs, out on vinyl in August 2013. Until then, the record can be purchased/streamed directly from the band’s Bandcamp page.

Check out the music video for “Queens Hotel” – the first single off of Rigoletto’s full-length record, Delusions of Grandeur

A special thanks to the fine folks at Alternative Press.

Over the past month or so, myself and the JOP guys have really enjoyed Vine. I’ve made a few posts documenting our manufacturing process, live gigs, and even screen-printing new t-shirts. Well, we decided to give you an exclusive sneak peek of The Joy of Painting’s new record, Tender Age, by doing just that – vine’n it. See a few clips below OR go follow “The Joy of Painting” and “South Division” on it (sorry, I’m not too sure what the proper Vine tag symbol is – haha).
